Sourcing and contracting is our business
ISG understands that there are many different triggers for a sourcing engagement -- a contract renewal, new cost optimization targets, a transformation initiative, a strategy change, or even changing business needs based on growth. All of these different reasons for sourcing have their own complex requirements. No matter what those requirements are, ISG is the best partner to ensure you get the desired business results out of your technology investments.
The Sourcing Lifecycle
To ISG, sourcing is more than selecting a provider and completing a transaction. We ensure you get the most value out of your technology investments by addressing the entire sourcing lifecycle, from building and aligning the IT strategy all the way through to governance of the supplier and contract.
IT Strategy & Operating Model
We provide a playbook to align your business needs, sourcing strategy and operating model, including what to source, renegotiate or retain for your technology landscape. This way, you know ahead of time the impact on your operations, the business case for the engagement, and how you'll measure and achieve the results needed.
Benchmarking, Research & Assessments
At the start of the project, we help you align your IT strategy with your sourcing goals via a financial analysis. ISG helps build the business case for sourcing, starting with a benchmark of your costs against the market and total cost of ownership (TCO) models.
Throughout the entire sourcing lifecycle, our +5,600 assessments, deep provider comparison research and hundreds of contracts serve as an unmatched source of insights for sourcing decision making.
Supplier Selection & Contracting
Our proven-comprehensive sourcing and contracting methodology, ISG FutureSource™, is now digitized as our ISG Tango platform: flexible, fast, collaborative and built for you. Woven in to our solution is our insights-driven provider selection research, market experience and contracts data, which helps you find the right provider(s) for your needs.
The result? A contract that allows you to manage your technology services to realize the power of your business case.
Organizational Change Management & Training
Research shows that 62% of project success relies on people – without addressing how the change will impact your people and training them to adapt, your organization may not adopt the change, wasting time and money. We proactively tackle the challenges of a transition so you can build a strong foundation for partnership and transformation to the future state.
Transition & Strategy Realization
We guide you from a signed contract through the transformation state all the way to the desired future-state smoothly, ensuring measurable results that match the business case. From ensuring adoption of the new ways of working to KPI monitoring and actioning to knowledge transfer, ISG assists with each step to make sure you get what you paid for.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should you renegotiate an outsourcing contract instead of going back to market?
Renegotiate when the provider performs well but pricing or scope has drifted from market rates or from your operating model. Go to market when service levels are failing, the provider can't support your technology roadmap, or the pricing gap is too wide to close through renegotiation. We benchmark your current pricing and service levels with ISG ProBenchmark® before recommending a route. That way the decision rests on market evidence, and the incumbent knows it does.
How is AI changing outsourcing contracts and pricing?
AI-driven productivity undermines FTE-based pricing. If a provider automates work you pay for by headcount, the provider keeps the savings unless your contract claims them. We help you restructure deals around outcomes, output units or committed productivity gains. We also write AI governance into the contract, covering data use, model accountability, IP ownership and how efficiency gains get shared over the term.
What is the difference between outcome-based and FTE-based pricing in managed services?
FTE pricing pays for effort. Outcome-based pricing ties fees to defined results, such as transactions processed, tickets resolved or availability met. Outcome models move delivery risk to the provider and reward productivity, but they only work when the outcome is measurable and the baseline is clean. We set the baseline, define the unit of measure and model the commercial impact before you commit.
As the world’s leading sourcing advisor at ISG we know what it takes to thrive in the face of change. Thanks to our deep expertise, unparalleled data, and proven methodology we guide our clients to achieve maximum value from sourcing while safely mitigating the associated risks. Contact us to learn more.
Should you build a Global Capability Center or outsource?
A GCC gives you direct control of talent, IP and delivery culture. Outsourcing gives you speed, variable cost and access to provider scale. Many enterprises run both, often through build-operate-transfer models. The right mix depends on the volume of work, how close it sits to your differentiation, and your capacity to manage location risk. We model total cost of ownership across each option. Learn more about ISG's GCC expertise.
How is IT services pricing benchmarked?
We compare your pricing, service levels and volumes against market data, normalized for scope, scale and service level. ISG draws on 5,600+ benchmark assessments and a Contract KnowledgeBase of 285,000+ sourcing contracts, so comparisons reflect what enterprises pay in current deals. You get the price gap by service tower and a negotiating position backed by evidence.
How does a sourcing platform speed up provider selection?
How do you protect contract value after signing?
Value leaks after signature. Obligations go untracked, service credits go unclaimed, and scope creeps into change requests. We design the governance model, KPIs and obligation tracking, and ISG GovernX® automates contract lifecycle and supplier management. Clients have increased contract compliance by 80% within 12 months.
How do you reduce risk in an outsourcing transaction?
Should you consolidate IT vendors or multisource?
Consolidation cuts management overhead and concentrates spend for better pricing. Multisourcing reduces dependency and keeps competitive tension in the portfolio. The right number of providers depends on how tightly your services integrate and how mature your internal governance is. We assess your supplier portfolio against spend, performance and market alternatives. One North American fintech saved $33M by rationalizing its network providers.
Does an independent sourcing advisory pay for itself?
ISG acts as a fiduciary advisor with no stake in which provider you select. Based on worldwide transactions from 2019 to 2022, clients averaged $20 to $40 in savings for every $1 of ISG fees. Individual results vary.
